About

The St Hubertus is an exciting format of competition for handlers pointing dogs that has been gaining pace in the UK and this year sees an extended competition with three qualifying events during the autumn leading up to a final at the prestigious Abbestead Estate in the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire in January

The competition has been run on the continent for several decades and the World Championships take place every year during the World Championships of Practical Hunting with Pointing Dogs.

The format sees the hunter and his/her dog take on a piece of ground as they would if they were out rough shooting, and a jury scores their run based on a set of rules that emphasises the ethical aspects of the hunt as well as the partnership between the dog and hunter.

The marksmanship of the hunter is also scored, he/she is allowed to shoot two pieces of game (any legal quarry) during their run, but points will only count if the game was pointed by the dog, and ”bagged” by the handler.

The competition is open to experienced hunters shooting over a continental pointing dog of a breed belonging to FCI Group 7 Section 1
